Abstract
The intertidal area is importantregarding storm impact and post-storm recovery. Currently, knowledge on the morphodynamics of macro-tidal beaches without intertidal bars is still scarce. The aim of this study was to understand and quantify the spatial and temporal variability of the intertidal beach morphology on a monthly scale for a macro-tidal, sandybeach without bar morphology. To reach this aim, cross-shore beach topographic surveyswerecarried outmonthly for 1.5 years at Mariakerke, Belgium. These surveys were compared tothe hydrodynamics that were measured continuously near the research area. It appeared that significant morphological changes occurredwithin one month, independent ofseasonal or long-term trends. Furthermore, it was found that there wasa strong relation between hydrodynamic forcing and morphological response, but also that this relation strongly variedalong the beach.
