INTRODUCTION | OMES Monitoring

INTRODUCTION

The Sigmaplan was initiated to protect flanders from flooding and to let nature revive. But what are the effect of the Sigmaplan, other changes and evolutions on the ecosystem? What is the waterquality like? How do the turbidity and morphology evolve? With the large Monitoring and Research program OMES (Onderzoek Milieu Effecten Sigmaplan), Flemish watermanagers and scientists track the waterquality, water quantity, fauna and flora of the Scheldt estuary. This website presents the results of these monitoring programs and the evolution of the river.
OMES is also part of the cross-border monitoring program MONEOS, the integrated monitoring of the Scheldt Estuary. The program further builds on existing monitoring activities and aims for integration and coordination across borders.
